Many people mistakenly believe that Russian and Ukrainian women are green card scammers who marry Western men and divorce them as soon as they’re accepted in the country. What most people don’t consider, however, is what Russian women give up when they leave their lifelong homes to move abroad. It takes much more than immigration papers to convince Russian women to give up their family, friends, job, culture, and language for life in an unfamiliar country. The Former Soviet Union has come a long way since the Cold War and life in Russia and the Ukraine is not bleak and miserable like many Westerners imagine, nor are the citizens starving. Therefore, Russian women aren’t likely to resort to fraud in order to gain a green card. They have their own lives, and they’re not likely to give it up for anything less than love. The days of illegally migrating and marrying Russian girls has long been over.
